Hello I'm Luis!
The goal of Asheville Multicultural is to highlight the rich cultural diversity in Asheville
Asheville is a melting pot of flavors and traditions. In this blog, we’ll briefly explore one of the star meals of El Salvador, India & Mexico.
For me, I would like to put the spotlight on three establishments that have not only become local favorites but also embody the rich tapestry of cultural diversity in the 828 area.
Pupuseria Patty by pupusa queen Patty Saenz
Nestled in the heart of Asheville is a small eatery that has taken the city by storm with its mouth watering pupusas. But what are pupusas, and who is behind this culinary phenomenon? Patty Saenz, who I call the “Pupusa Queen,” because with two pupuserias in Asheville, one food truck, and one more restaurant about to open in Johnson City Tennessee, Patty Saenz is for sure making a strong following with her approach to Central American cuisine, and one thing is for sure DA PEOPLE LOVE PUPUSAS and Pupuseria Patty!
Pupusas are thick corn tortillas filled with a variety of savory ingredients, such as cheese, beans, or meat. Patty Saenz, with her roots deeply connected to El Salvador, brings an authentic touch to each pupusa she prepares. Her dedication to preserving the essence of Salvadoran cuisine has made her a local celebrity, drawing food enthusiasts from all walks of life to her charming establishment.
Laila Indian Cuisine: Chicken TANDOORI
Have you experienced the explosion of flavors that Indian cuisine offers?
If you haven’t, then Laila Indian restaurant, located in downtown Asheville is the perfect way to get yourself on a gastronomic journey through the diverse and aromatic world of Indian cuisine. One standout dish that demands attention is the Tandoori Chicken.
Tandoori Chicken, marinated in a blend of yogurt and spices before being slow-cooked in a traditional clay oven (tandoor), the mix of ingredients include yogurt, condiments and spices. The end result is a chicken that may look different to what you know, but trust me, after you take the first bite you are going to fall in love with the red color and flavors of this extraordinary masterpiece of Indian cuisine.
I’m personally a big fan of Indian culture, food, music and I have plenty of dishes I can suggest, however I believe that for some people who may not be used to foods with many condiments and spices, Tandoori chicken is the perfect way to get you started on this amazing food.
Molina’s Tortilleria y Tamalería: Unveiling the Tamal Treasure
In the heart of Asheville, the aroma of freshly made tamales wafts from Molina’s Tortilleria y Tamalería. Did you know that tamales are beloved across Latin America? Tortilleria Molina has become a local sensation, earning the title of the go-to place for these delectable treats.
Molina’s expertly crafted tamales are Mexican style and they boast a delicious balance of masa and flavorful fillings. I have tried pork, chicken, and rajas tamales. I LOVE THEM ALL, but I also noticed that oftentimes the ones they run out faster are the Rajas.
If you go, I suggest you get as many flavors they may have available because you are going to love them. If you are wanting to order Tamales for a party or for the holidays I also suggest you approach them with plenty of time ahead because these guys get very busy.
My MUST HAVE TAMAL HERE? Any of them seriously!
